Today I am showcasing my children’s book – Jeffrey the Jittery Giraffe. I wrote this story for a little boy who was afraid of loud noises. I never met the boy but was told by his grandmother who came to a book signing one day many years ago. She left me her phone number and I promised to write a story just for him. I tried to contact her to send along this book for her grandson but she never called me back. The person who answered sounded confused and maybe did not understand my message to have the woman call me back. Sigh! I never did connect with her even after trying again but just got a hang up. He must have thought I was a crank call.

Jeffrey is a nervous giraffe due to a terrible storm on the day of his birth. He remembers that day and is frightened of any kind of noise or unexpected things happening to him. His mother tells him that he is stronger than he thinks.
One day Jeffrey meets another giraffe who needs his help. Read this story in rhyme and find out what important lesson Jeffrey learns when he thinks of others before himself.

It was fun to write about a giraffe since they are such unusual creatures. Each time I choose a subject I get all the information I can about the animal in question to share with children. I think it is important that they learn new things each time they read a book. I enjoy learning along with them as I write.
