Most of my children’s stories are about animals or other creatures such as crustacians such as Jerry the Crabby Crayfish and Clarence Henry the Hermit Crab. These two books are chock full of information about these two creatures. The stories are written in rhyme with life lessons and actual photos of these two crustacians who were pets in our fish tank at one time.

The cover was created by my husband John and features Jerry who was quite a character and loved and missed by all who met him. My grandchildren enjoyed interacting with Jerry and getting him riled up as they would tap on the glass and then back away when Jerry raised his claws at them. It was quite comical to see how he let them know he wasn’t happy when they disturbed him. They enjoyed it too and would giggle and do it again until I told them to stop. Sigh!
Who would think that a crayfish would have a personality, but this one did! I cried, yes cried, when he passed because I enjoyed him so much and he was quite beautiful as you can see by the photo. I created this story in memory of Jerry who gave us many hours of enjoyment just watching him in action and how well he kept the tank clean.

Clarence Henry is different from other hermit crabs. He came to his new home minus one claw and a leg. He needs to protect himself until he can grow new appendages. Will Clarence Henry be able to meet the challenges in his new water world? Clarence Henry was a real aquatic hermit crab who lives in a saltwater fish tank in our home. We watched him interact with the other creatures in the tank. He was resilient, intelligent, and a joy to have as a pet. We took some photos of him as he grew his claw and leg and changed shells. We shared these photos and facts about hermit crabs in the back of the book. I hope you will enjoy them. This book will make a wonderful resource for classrooms.
I created this story in 2018 in memory of Clarence Henry for he was a memorable character who is missed as much as Jerry. He had challenges to overcome but always came through doing his job, keeping the tank pristine.
