Here it is already the end of another month. Where does the time go? I have been busy as usual reading some wonderful books for the month of November of 2023. Here are the 10 books I read and reviewed for November. I might have read even more if I didn’t have a few WIP. But I always seemed to have a WIP! That fact never stops me! I hope you enjoy reading these reviews.

I love sharing my eclectic reads in this Jemsbooks Segment, Books Read in the Month. I hope you will get a chance to look over these books soon. Thank you for your kind support of my work and that of my fellow authors.
If you are an avid reader, as I am, please review the books you love on Amazon or wherever you purchased them in order for others to enjoy your reviews. Reviews are one way for readers to know about an exceptional book. We indie authors love to receive reviews and appreciate the efforts of readers to do them. Once again, I thank you for your kind support of me and my books and for supporting my fellow authors too.
When I wrote these reviews I rated them on Amazon, Goodreads and sometimes Barnes & Noble. I did not include the ratings here though. It is best to share my thoughts with you about how I felt about the book without the rating. Ratings can be deceiving at times.
We all feel differently about books. Sometimes we love them, sometimes we like them and still other times we may dislike a book. Some others are so memorable they take our breaths away! While others are sweet, sensitive and enjoyable reads that we soon will forget. But all of these books I have reviewed were lovely reads as you can see from my reviews. I hope you enjoy my reviews and that they help you decide what will be your next read.
Rhe Brewster, emergency room nurse and consultant to the local police force, is on another case that could lead to her death. This is the second book in the Rhe Brewster Mystery Series that is full of twists, turns, and danger.
This book kept me reading all day long, only stopping for something to eat. The character, Rhe, is a strong, daring and intelligent woman who delves into mysteries without thinking, risks her life at every chance she gets when she tries to help others who are in trouble and thinks later about what she had done. Her husband is not at all on her side in anything she takes on and is not a likable character. It made me wonder why she stuck with him throughout most of the book.
Luckily for Rhe there were many friends and people who she worked with that supported her efforts and listened to her diatribes as to how she would solve another crime. I look forward to Rhe’s next mystery.
This was an enjoyable read that was well-done by the author who displayed her knowledge of medical information throughout the book. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys an exciting medical mystery.
A sweet story about how a grouchy beaver finds the true meaning of Christmas by being kind to others and spreading cheer.
Children need to have positive reinforcement in today’s mixed-up world about doing good and being unselfish by thinking of others first. Mike Martin, an author of the Windflower Series, wonderful books, now has children’s books. His kind and sensitive nature is evidenced in his writing for youngsters in this book and another.
A wonderful addition to your children’s library. I kindly received an ARC for this book and wrote an honest review.
Within Reach is a love story between two people who are not only lonely but also looking for love at all costs. They had no idea that when they met that this would not only change their lives completely but also cause many problems that go far beyond what they had ever imagined.
The two main protagonists, Danica and Michael, meet while she is on vacation in Maine and furnishing a house she just purchased. Michael is smitten right from the beginning and can’t get Danica out of his mind. He doesn’t realize the importance of her name and who she is connected to. When he finds out he cannot stop the rollercoaster of feelings that continue to bombard him.
Danica is married to a man who rises to Secretary of Commerce with the new administration. Her father is a prominent senator who is strictly by the books about what is important in life – his work. It comes before his wife, daughter and life in general. Danica has always known this but marries someone just like her father and feels trapped in a loveless marriage. Michael’s kindness and attentiveness touches her heart, and she begins to see that her life is worthless unless she makes a change and takes a stand.
This story was a long-winded one and it was at times a little frustrating watching Danica hem and haw about what she should do to find love. Michael is patient, loving and exasperating how long he professes to wait for her to make up her mind.
I did enjoy this book and love Delinsky’s work but I would have liked to see it much shorter or put into more than one story.
Heart of Mine is the third book in the Colorado Hearts series. This series is based on the five Brinkman sisters who travel back home to Eden Colorado after being estranged from their father to take over his legacy after his death. They are given the ultimatum to inherit all that is his in Eden Colorado if they stay for six months.
The series centers on one sister in each book, how she adjusts to her new home, takes over a business, and discovers love. This book is about Emma Brinkman who has lost at love and almost gives up believing that she will ever find a man who will love her again.
When Emma meets a new man who has come to work her father’s mine, she is drawn to him and he to her. What she doesn’t realize is that he is not who he says he is, and his secrets could affect not only him but Emma too if she dares to fall for him.
This is an enjoyable series that continues in Book 4.
Heart of Dreams is Book 4 of the Colorado Hearts Series that is full of action, adventures, danger, and love. This book is centered upon the last two sisters who are unmarried and their search for love.
Mavis, the oldest Brinkman sister and her younger sister, Katie, are the ones whose stories are told in this book. Mavis’s goal is to find love of a man she has known since she moved to Eden. Will she be able to convince him that he cares for her as much as she cares for him.
Katie stumbles upon a man who has been shot, lost his memory and is in need of help. She insists on nursing him back to good health even though he may be a murderer. When Katie begins to care for this man, she vows to find out who he is and somehow prove that he is not who everyone thinks he is. What she doesn’t foresee is the danger she has put herself into in order to do this.
There are three stories simultaneously being told here. Besides the two about Mavis and Katie another one is told involving two visitors to the Five Sisters Ranch who may also be in danger.
An interesting read that closes off this enjoyable and well-written series.
Nine Lives is the debut novel by Jaye Marie. It’s a mystery, thriller and suspenseful tale of woe of a fifty-nine year old female artist, Kate, who has ill health and no love life. She can’t seem to get out of her own way in everything she does. Her only outlet is her painting.
Kate’s best friend Sally is in love with her but she rejects her friend’s advances while still pining for her lost love, Michael. She also had a disastrous marriage to Jack who nearly killed her with his abuse and sadly succeeded in doing so with her son.
There are two men in her life, one who loves her and another who is obsessed with her in a sick way. She is plagued by all kinds of terrible things happening to her and her health continues to deteriorate. She has no where to turn.
There are many questions unanswered but I still enjoyed the suspense and how Kate finally discovers who her tormentor is.
The Unopened Present is a beautifully written chronicle of teachings involving Scriptures, quotes from famous people, notes from the author’s own wisdom and experience, and historical references. All this was written around the author’s life lessons that he wrote to leave for his son in case he did not see his son grow up. Unfortunately, his infant son died. The list was the basis for this book.
This is an incredible gift not only in memory of Battle’s son but also for anyone who needs inspiration and guidance in life. He supplies all kinds of valuable information and some unforgettable advise such as be humble, be proactive, there is always an alternative choice, never say can’t, Aim high! Work Hard! Never Quit!
Everyone will benefit from reading this inspirational book and feel empowered, become more self-assured, confident and inspired to keep trying in spite of past failures. It was quite moving, uplifting and emotional at times.
A wonderful gift to anyone who needs enlightening, encouragement or direction in life. This author is an incredible motivator and inspirational writer. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it!
What Never Happened is a mystery that moves slowly and becomes a little confusing at times. Colette “Coco” Weber is the main protagonist who moves back to the island where she once lives with her parents and brother, who were murdered there many years before.
I don’t know why she wanted to return but it appears that she is trying to solve their murders and reclaim her house which has been taken over by her Aunt Gwen who thinks it now belongs to her. While she is living in the house Coco hears about elderly widowed women dying for unexplained reasons. She becomes a self-appointed sleuth trying to discover who the murdered is and why they are doing this.
When her Aunt Gwen dies Coco suspects that there is definitely something sinister afoot and soon receives more and more threats to her own life and damage to her home with no help from the local police.
At first I gave this five stars but after more deliberation, I reconsidered and gave it four since it is quite long with too many diatribes throughout with back stories that confuse.
To Die For is a story of greed, murder, jealousy, and treachery. The author created a tale of luxury in the real estate business where each man or woman is on their own and will do anything to succeed in this sinister world.
There are four major players who vie to capture the prize of one millions dollars if they can find a buyer for a fifty million dollar home. They will go to any means to win this coveted money.
The story shares a little about each character but keeps the reader guessing who the murderer is until the climax. Will the survivors be able to pick up the pieces and go on after this horrendous crime? Who will purchase this house since it is now tainted with blood from a murder? Will any of the sellers change their ways in this dog eat dog business?
This kept me turning pages until the final page. An interesting and intriguing story.
The Devine Doughnut Shop is a sweet treat in more ways than one. It is full of humor, romance, heartache and family who work together in this lovely doughnut shop that makes the best doughnuts in all of Texas.
This was a story of family working together to keep their parents’ shop flourishing through hard work and sacrifice. Two sisters and their cousin work tirelessly from 3:00 in the morning until closing to provide for their family while keeping the town of Devine happy and full of doughnuts.
There is heartache and tough times for them with an unruly teenager who keeps them on their toes when she mixes in with the wrong friends, and much heartbreak when two of the family pick the wrong men with whom to fall in love. Will they be able to pick up the pieces and find a way forward to happiness? Will Audrey, the troubled teen looking for a chance to be popular ever find her way out of her problems? Will there be love for those who have lost in the past? You will just have to read this delightfully sweet and romantic tale for yourself.
A fun and light read perfect for the beach or while sitting by the fire curled up with a blanket, hot tea, cocoa and this book.
