Interview with Author Eve Marie!

It is a pleasure to introduce and welcome fellow author Eve Marie to Jemsbooks Interview an Author. Thank you for coming today, Eve.

Please tell us about yourself.

I am currently a VE Language Arts teacher but I have worn a few other hats after graduating including working in New York for the city as a real estate tax assessor; managing a bookstore in Gulf Shores, Al; and owning a cupcakerie.

Jjspina: You certainly do wear a lot of hats, Eve.

What process do you need in order to write?

Timing, feeling comfortable with myself, flowing and sometimes if I don’t have a choice…I just motivate myself by giving myself a time period to finish a chapter or editing.

Jjspina:Good for you! It isn’t always easy to do that.

How do you come up with your ideas?

I come up with my ideas for my stories by listening to other people’s experiences; by reading widely and by using my imagination. Sometimes I just hear a quote and it inspires me. For example: for my debut novel “The Bayou Heist” while I was working in the United Arab Emirates, I remember hearing this quote after someone finished telling an interesting story “Every man has two eyes but no one sees the same.” I thought to myself what a great quote. What if…..? and my novel began.

Jjspina: That really is an intriguing quote and a perfect segue into a novel.

What are you currently working on?

I am currently working on a followup project with Faith discovering a secret about one of the newly arrived characters in her small town. I bring Andre, the Bayou Detective, newly retired into the discussion as I do with Giorgio, the Italian Attorney from New York who is still peering around the case of the monies found in the Bayous.

Jjspina: Good luck with this new project.

What do you do when you are not writing?

When I am not writing, I am reading, baking keto desserts, walking or swimming.

Jjspina: We all need to have some outlets for all our creativity. These sound perfect to recharge you.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

If I could travel anywhere in the world, I would love to travel through the United States and see all the places I have thought about visiting with my husband: Mount Rushmore, North Dakota; Wyoming; Northern California; including some parts of the Pacific NorthWest and the Rocky Mountain States. I would also love to have my husband show me Hawaii, a state he spent several years in during his military service.

Jjspina: There are many wonderful places to go in the USA. I hope that you do get to see some of these magnificent sights.

What advice would you give prospective authors?

The advice I would give to prospective authors is not to give up. Keep a list of submissions, keep reading and writing, do your best.

Jjspina: Sound advice, Eve.

If you could have one wish, what would it be?

If I could have one wish, it would be to bring back my parents for a day, so I could record some of their stories. My mother was a wonderful storyteller and told stories about living in the City of New York while growing up during the Great Depression; her father, who owned a candy store and was also a bookie. She told some very interesting stories of her family and the background. I only wish I could travel in time to the day she was growing up and view the world through her eyes.

Jjspina: That would be nice to be able to do. I know I would love to have my parents back too when they were in good health to share some more stories.

Thank you for having me stop by and share! I enjoyed it! This past week was a winner-a winning hand all ways around. I spoke to a wonderful group of middle school readers. I was impressed with the questions asked: does your novel end on a cliffhanger? What about the protagonist? Another enthusiastically wanted to know “Is anything blown up?” To each question, I answered ‘yes’ and realized that with good readers, you don’t need a plan as the plan flew out of the window with their questions! They drove the discussion!! Enjoy your weekend and the holidays.
