Don’t let your kids’ reading levels drop during this time. It has been known to happen (so my husband, former principal tells me). I always encouraged my children to read all year round but especially during the summer. We would visit the library and stock up on books. I would pick up six books each week and read them while my kids choose a few of their own each. I even read all their books too and discussed what we read together. They didn’t mind that in the beginning when they were little but when they were teens, I think they objected a little. Haha! But I think they got a kick out of their mother reading their stuff. I guess that made me a little cool?!

I once worked as a Program Assistant/Teacher’s Aide in the Methuen School System, before I changed positions to Administrative Secretary, and always encouraged the children to read. I also read to them to get them energized. That was before I had published my first book.

Watch for new children’s book coming this week for PS-Grade 3, ages 5-8. This is a series of four books with chapters and six stories for children that will make them feel more grownup and reading like the bigger kids. It is never too soon for children to read chapter books. Once they complete these books then it’s onto Davey & Derek Series and Abby & Holly Series. There will be no stopping them from getting their reading levels up a grade or two or more. Not only that, but they will have fun and learn valuable life lessons from my children’s and MG/PT books. I know how important it is to get kids on the right track and being kind to others, accept differences, realize that family and friends are important and bullying is never tolerated or accepted.

Did you know that reading is good for you? Reading is not only important for children but it’s also very important for adults. It not only increases your word vocabulary and stimulates your mind, but also gives you a feeling of wellbeing and promotes good health, dispels feelings of loneliness, improves your memory, promotes better patterns of sleep, and don’t forget – it brings families closer when they share and read books together.
