With the change in the weather and the beautiful colors of the leaves we thought it was a good time to travel up to the mountains to take in all the beauty. It was a perfect day in the low 70’s and dry.
I included some of the information about The Flume from the booklet that we received. I thought you might enjoy learning more about it. It’s fascinating.

After our trip we stopped at the Woodstock Inn in Lincoln, New Hampshire for a burger which was delicious! Tables were safely distanced with plastic screens between booths and masks were worn until seated and eating. We felt comfortable and safe.
Reservations for The Flume must be made ahead of time through your phone. Masks must be worn on the trip throughout the two-mile round trip climb and you must keep six feet or more between other climbers. We didn’t know about the reservations until we arrived there. The two attendants were accommodating and helped us through the process of reserving our tickets. We were able to get right into the group that was scheduled at that time, so there was no waiting. We just had to show our tickets from my phone and get in line safely distanced. There were only a couple of families of four or more ahead of us. We always felt safe walking and not at all crowded. People were polite some times while other times some younger ones ran by us without excusing themselves. We do tend to walk a little slower.
I have to say that The Flume was very pleasant to walk through even though I was feeling it a little in my knees when we had to climb and coming back down was quite steep. I used to be able to traverse this climb without getting out of breath. I guess I am getting up there in age. Sigh!
We had more color back at home in Londonderry, New Hampshire than we saw in the White Mountains. I think it was past peak by a week or more.
Well, I guess this will be it for this year until 2021 when we may go back for another visit but earlier so we can see more color in the trees. Like I said previously it is all due to the drought – the trees lost color sooner and there was less water at the falls. I still think it was impressive and enjoyable.
