Here it is already the end of another month. Where does the time go? We now have only two months left of this year! I have been busy as usual reading some wonderful books for the month of November of 2022. Here are the 8 books I read and reviewed for November. I might have read even more if I didn’t have a few WIP. But I always seemed to have a WIP! That fact never stops me! I hope you enjoy reading these reviews.
I love sharing my eclectic reads in this Jemsbooks Segment, Books Read in the Month. I hope you will get a chance to look these books over soon. Thank you for your kind support of my work and that of my fellow authors.
If you are an avid reader, as I am, please review the books you love on Amazon or wherever you purchased them in order for others to enjoy your reviews. Reviews are one way for readers to know about an exceptional book. We indie authors love to receive reviews and appreciate the efforts of readers to do them. Once again, I thank you for your kind support of me and my books and for supporting my fellow authors too.
When I wrote these reviews I rated them on Amazon, Goodreads and sometimes Barnes & Noble. I did not include the ratings here though. It is best to share my thoughts with you about how I felt about the book without the rating. Ratings can be deceiving at times.
We all feel differently about books. Sometimes we love them and sometimes we like them. Some are so memorable they take our breaths away! While others are sweet, sensitive and enjoyable reads that we soon will forget. But all of these books I have reviewed were enjoyable reads as you can see from my reviews. I hope you enjoy my reviews and that they help you decide if you would like to read these books.
A frightening concept to this mystery about a teen’s disappearance which causes a parent, Jessica Moore, to never give up her hope that her daughter will come back home one day. The story is told through two POV’s – one by the mother, Jessica, and the second by the teen, Wyn.
The story bounces between these two characters making for some confusion when the past and present intermingle. Things happen but are not explained until much later which can be frustrating. The author made the reader feel the fear and angst of the mother who turns to booze to try to deal with her daughter’s disappearance. She keeps the faith that her daughter will come back when she receives texts from Wyn that she has been kidnapped.
It was an interesting mystery though with twists and turns that made for some surprises at its conclusion.
This is book 2 in the No More series. The author provides plenty of background of the first book in this sequel to get the reader up to snuff. It did help quite a bit but I almost thought I had read this book too since it sounded so familiar.
The main protagonist, Jenna Mason, is not who she says she is. She is hiding from her past that she cannot face and will no share with anyone even her new love. She has to protect herself and her son who knows nothing about her troubles and she wants to keep it that way. She feels compelled to protect him at all costs.
Jenna is a talented animator and finally successful in her chosen field. She was once poor and struggling but now can provide for herself and her son the way she always hoped.
Once Jenna’s secret is out the troubles begin and she finds herself and her son in great danger. She strives to find a way out and escape once again. Can she do this? Will she and her son survive? What will her new love do when she disappears? Will she ever find love again?
This was an engrossing read with plenty of twists and turns to keep me turning pages. I look forward to the next book in this series.
A fun and entertaining paranormal fantasy involving a magical hat and its owner, Lizzie St. Laurent. Lizzie wanted something of her grandmother’s after her grandmother’s death. She sees a box on the truck, doesn’t know what’s in it, but grabs it just the same. This action begins an amusing novella of fantasy, adventures and a kidnapping once she discovers the hat.
The author created an amusing story that was a fast and humorous read. The hat and Lizzie make a good duo once they set rules and work together to find Lizzie’s friends’ kidnapped baby. There’s a history between the hat and Lizzie’s family and her past of which she was not aware. There are amusing conversations between the hat and Lizzie as they open up to one another about their lives.
If you are looking for a way to escape the troubles of the world, this is the book to jump into for an amusing read. I look forward to the next book in the series.
A macabre and twisted tale of a psychopath on the loose. Dr. Tessa McGowan is the forensic pathologist who is assisting on the bodies that turn up.
Tessa’s estranged husband, Dakota Sharp, agent on the case, is also involved in finding the kidnapper and mutilation of women. Dakota’s sister was mysteriously killed years before and her murder still unsolved. He is determined to solve his sister’s case along with the present ones.
This story is more than a mystery, it is also a romance between Tessa and Dakota. Though married they are at odds with one another after a short marriage and estrangement but sparks are flying between them that keep this story steamy.
An enjoyable read that will keep you on the edge of your seat as the killer gets closer to his intended target.
The Beautiful Little Things is a lovely story of family, love, loss and forgiveness. Three siblings who have grown apart after the death of their beloved mother must find their way back together or be lost forever.
The author has created a heartfelt and beautiful story of what can happen when family members forget that love is the most important part of their lives and that family is at the center of it all.
Romy, Joanna and Matt, siblings, who are lost and lonely after their mother dies must find a way to go on and continue the traditions that their loving mother started. Can they help their father also who is grieving and has stopped living since his wife lost her life to cancer? Each sibling has his/her own demons to conquer before they can begin again and find the love they once shared.
A memorable and unforgettable story that will touch your heart and bring tears to your eyes. I highly recommend!
The Last Lie Told is a devious mystery that keeps the reader in a dizzying fix trying to work out the clues. This is book 1 in this mystery series that gets out to a whirlwind of a beginning.
Finley O’Sullivan is a legal investigator for her godfather. She has had some difficulty in her past when she had a mental breakdown as a lawyer after her husband’s murder. Not only is she dealing with her husband’s death but also what happened to her after his death at the hands of his killers.
This story kept me engrossed and jumping around along with Finley as she delves into a new case with Jack, her godfather. This case involves a man in prison who claims he did not kill someone. Finley is on the case and dealing with twin women who both claim they are innocent in their father’s death. Another death is discovered and Finley must discover who is lying and why. There are too many suspects at one point that had me pulling my hair out.
This book was an enjoyable read with plenty of mystery, intrigue and surprises at the end. Couldn’t put it down! I look forward to the next installment.
The Secret Keeper is an epic story about a woman and her past. When an incident takes place and is witnessed by her young daughter and her baby boy, it is something that the daughter never forgets. She is compelled as she grows up to solve this mystery of why and how it happened to her mother.
I don’t want to give anything away about this mystery that is compelling and unforgettable. It is rather a long book and kept me in suspense as it traveled back in time to 1941 and forward to the present time. The story is told through time sequences. The mystery begins to be uncovered as the young woman strives to unravel the clues from her mother’s past. What she finds is not what she expected. Just when she thinks she has solved the mystery it becomes even more disconcerting.
This is a story that will keep you captivated and searching for the answers along with Laurel the daughter. Can Laurel keep her mother’s secrets to her grave? Will these secrets change her life along with her siblings forever?
You will just have to read this spellbinding book for yourself. A Must Read and most enjoyable story!
The author created a lovely story of hope and a new beginning with two interesting characters. This is a short story that could have a sequel to continue the story.
I was drawn into the character of Jack McLean who is a drifter with demons of his own when he comes across Savannah Logan on a burning homestead. He feels compelled to help Savannah until she can get back on her feet.
A story that has much promise and begs to be a full-length story. I would love to learn more about this intriguing character, Jack McLean.
An enjoyable short read that leaves one wanting more by this talented author.
