Interview an Author with Authors Donald and Cathy Rush – DC Rush!

It is such a pleasure to welcome a fellow author to Interview an Author on Jemsbooks.blog. Today, please help me welcome authors DC Rush!

Thank you so much, Don and Cathy, for coming today to share a little bit about yourselves and your lovely books. I am excited to have you here! The floor is yours!

Don & Cathy Rush – DC Rush

What process do you need in order to write?

Writing takes me a very long time. I have to have total peace and quiet. I don’t get much of that so I jump on it whenever I can. I make a rough outline of the book. I describe the characters with some detail on each one. I describe the setting including the year and location. Finally I envision the ending although I make many changes as I go along.

Jjspina: Whatever works for you, Don. It’s your work so you have creative license to do all the changing you want.

What is your target audience for your book?

The audience for the children books is age 5 to 9. The first four books are part of a series and also chapter books. I think they would make great bedtime stories. The adult fiction books are more suspense/thriller books. Definitely not for the young or anyone who doesn’t like that sort of book.

jjspina: Your children’s books are creative and colorful, Don. I look forward to reading your adult books.

Please share your links and where to purchase your books.

All the books are available only on Amazon. The ebook links are below.

What advice would you give prospective authors?

You have to stick with it. Take the time to have your book proofread and copy edited. You may be anxious to publish your book but make sure it is presentable. I learned the hard way after receiving a couple poor reviews for grammar, etc.

jjspina: Good advice, Don.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I really don’t care to travel around the world. I would love to see the United States. I was born and raised in Ohio and over my lifetime I lived in Seattle, San Jose, San Diego, Phoenix and Minnesota. I’ve see Niagara Falls and Orlando Florida. I’ve see Devils Tower and Las Vegas. I’ve seen Mount Rushmore and Canada. I’ve been through Texas and Oklahoma. I believe I’ve been in nearly 40 states so far. I would love to see the Redwoods and Yellowstone Park. I would love to visit New York City. The one trip I would love to take is a cruise to Alaska. That’s my dream!

Jjspina: You have seen quite a few states in the US. I hope you get to visit the rest of the states and realize your dream to travel to Alaska. I went on an Alaskan cruise many years ago. It was a memorable trip.

If you could have one wish, what would it be?

I wish my health was better. I’ve struggled for many years. I should have taken better care of myself when I was younger.

jjspina: I pray that your health improves. I think we all wish we had done something different in our youth. God bless you.

What would you do if you were not a writer?

I began writing late in life. Before writing I was a Manager at an Aerospace Company then a Plant Manager in Minnesota I had a good career overall. I never finished college and sometimes I wish I had.

Jjspina: It is never too late to take courses or do something different in life. I wish you well whatever you do, Don.

Here is my review of Don’s book, Deadly Pranks:

Deadly Pranks is a gripping story of four boys who get into trouble when they take pranks too far. What they don’t realize is they must pay for their errant ways.

The author has created a shocking account of four mischievous teens who get into all kinds of trouble without any thought to the consequences of their actions. It has some unexpected twists and turns and a surprise ending.

It was an intriguing story from an author who also writes children’s books. Donald Rush has written a story that kept me interested and guessing what would happen next.

Thank you so much for coming today, Don and Cathy, to share your books and a little about yourselves. It was a pleasure to host you here. Feel free to come back when you have a new book to share with me and my readers.

Thank you, readers, for stopping by to read this post. I hope you will check out Donald’s books soon. Please remember to leave a review of books you read wherever you purchased them. We authors will be most appreciative of your efforts. Thank you for your kind support.

Blessings & Hugs! Stay Safe, Stay Well and God Bless!

Thank you, Annette, for stopping by. Their books are lovely. 💕

    • Don Rush says:

Thanks Annette. We spent a great deal of time looking for the right designer for our children book covers. Originally a local artist designed the first and second book but after we found Daniela Frongia we asked her to go back and do all the illustrations on every book over. That was we would have consistency. I enjoy Daniela’s art. She is very talented. I can’t draw a straight line!!

  2. The children’s books look delightful and The Kirtland Killer looks soooo good!
Best wishes to DC Rush 🙂

Thank you for stopping by! I am reading it now. 😀

    • Don Rush says:

We decided to write an adult fiction book. Deadly Pranks was our first book and the locale is also in Kirtland, coincidentally the place I was raised. Next was the Kirtland Killer and I’m working on another book, The Kirtland Kidnapper. A few Kirtland residents do not like me writing about Kirtland but most love it. I happen to know Kirtland and loved growing up there.

  3. Lovely looking kids books. Nice to meet Donald and Cathy. 🙂

    • jjspina says:

Thank, Marje! Yes, they are lovely books. Thank you for stopping by! 💕

      • Don Rush says:

Thanks Marje. Glad you like the book covers. We hope you decide to read a couple books. These books were written in order starting with Robby’s Quest for Seed.
