Interview with Author Syd Sullivan and her Debut Novel!

Please help me welcome author Syd Sullivan who is here to share her debut novel, Unsolved Case. I recently met Syd at a book signing by New England Authors Expo at Northern Essex Community College. Since she is a new author I wanted to help her get established and introduce her to all my fellow author friends and readers.

It’s lovely to have you here, Syd. Please take the stage and tell us about yourself and your book.

When did you know that you wanted to be an author?

I started writing around 6 yrs old, writing stories about my day and with friends. When I turned 14 that is when it really became something I wanted to achieve.

Jjspina: That is wonderful that you knew what you wanted to do at such a young age.

How do you come up with ideas for your stories?

While writing I tend to zone out and try to focus on 1 main idea and then take several other ideas to create the story.

Jjspina: Nice way to go into your own special place to think.

What do you expect to accomplish in 2019?

In 2019 I will have published 2 books within  one year, that is my big accomplishment.

Jjspina: Congrats on publishing!

What hobbies do you have when you are not writing?

My hobbies include playing basketball, going to movies, and going to the beach when the weather permits.

Jjspina: I like the going to the beach one!

What is your target audience for your book?

My books relate to young adults, but a lot of different age groups tend to enjoy my novel no matter the age.

Jjspina: Perfect, that way you get a broader audience.

What advice would you give prospective authors?

My advice to other authors is to follow your thoughts when writing and just keep true to what you want to write. Let your imagination run wild because writing gives you the ability to bring your characters to life.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

There are thousands of beautiful places in the world and I believe you can’t just stay in one place to witness how big the world is.

Jjspina: Yes, there certainly are, Syd.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Something people don’t know about me is that when I travel throughout the country. I have a tradition that I do and have done for quite sometime now. I pick up rocks. One rock from each state. I currently have 11 rocks. When I return home I put the state abbreviation on that rock from where it comes from. Eventually, I hope to have 50.

Jjspina: That’s a fascinating thing to do. I hope you complete your collection one day.

Blurb:

In the legendary city of Boston, a fifteen year-old, Ariel Smith, lives with her parents and her twin brothers, Aaron and Eric. Ariel’s life is turned upside down as she grieves for the birth parents she never knew. While dealing with all that life throws at her, she has a feeling she’s being watched.
