HL Carpenter  (Helen and Lorri)

Thank you for coming today, Helen and Lorri.

Hello, Janice! So happy to meet you! Thanks for the opportunity to guest on your blog!

And hello, readers! We’re delighted you’re here!

Please tell us something about yourself.

We’re HL Carpenter, a mother/daughter author duo. We write from our studios in Carpenter Country, a magical place that, like our stories, is unreal but not untrue. Our books are family-friendly and suitable for ten-year-olds as well as kidults of all ages.

jjspina: It’s so wonderful that you work together to create your stories. I look forward to perusing your links and book.

How do you come up with ideas for your stories?

Ideas shimmer in the air here in Carpenter Country. Sometimes we’re quick enough to capture them. Sometimes we buy them wholesale at the Land of What-if Idea Store. And sometimes we have to resort to more mundane tactics.

For example, the idea for The Ghost in The Gardens, our latest middle-grade mystery, sprouted when we read an article about a small botanical garden and a woman who spent her entire working career cataloguing the plants in that single garden. Her dedication was inspiring, and we were awed by the variety of plant life in such a small area and how difficult finding a particular plant is.

jjspina: This books sounds fascinating to me as a plant lover.

What projects are you currently working on?

In terms of writing work-in-process, we have a new cozy mystery ready for release and another in the draft stage; we completed the first draft of a themed collection of short stories and are letting the manuscript cool off, and we’re in the revision stage of a collection of contemporary satire. We also have a couple of completed cozies for adult readers that we’re thinking of publishing as a series, along with novellas featuring the same characters.

jjspina: Sounds like you have many projects in different stages.

What hobbies do you have when you are not writing?

Word games! Puzzles, board games, search-and-find, quizzes, crosswords, and television word-game shows.

We also love to read, and we enjoy the outdoors. We garden, bird-watch, walk, and journal the activities of the wildlife in Carpenter Country.

jjspina. You certainly have a lot to keep you busy. The puzzles must help you work out your mysteries in a methodical way.

Please share your links and where to purchase your books.

The central hub for all Carpenter Country adventures is HLCarpenter.com, where you’ll find links to our social media and author pages, free reads, audio excerpts, reader’s guides, and photo-essay updates of the latest happenings in our neck of the human experience.

Our books are available everywhere fine literature is sold. Oh, yes, and they are also on Amazon. 🙂

Thank you again for this opportunity, Janice. And thank you, readers, for reading along with us!

jjspina: It was my pleasure to have you both on my blog today. I wish you both much success with your books. Please feel free to come back again when you have a new book to share now that you are part of the Jemsbooks Blog family.
